WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 1.0 was adopted as a W3C Recommendation on May 5, 1999. Section 508 § 1194.22 is based partially on the WCAG 1.0 Guidelines, however WCAG 1.0 goes much further than Section 508.
WCAG 1.0 is organized into three tiers of Checkpoints: Priority 1, 2, and 3. These correspond to compliance Level A, Double A, and Triple A, respectively.
This section of the website deals with WCAG 1.0, Level A Conformance. Level A Conformance requires that all of the WCAG 1.0 Priority 1 Checkpoints be satisfied. Because Section 508, § 1194.22 sub-paragraphs (a) through (k) are themselves WCAG 1.0 Priority 1 Checkpoints, if your site is already 508-compliant, you have already met 11 of the 17 Priority 1 Checkpoints.
This section discusses the remaining six Checkpoints not already covered under Section 508.
