DOR administers several kinds of Grants (RFAs) & Contracts (RFPs) to support services to individuals with disabilities. The Grants & Contracts are primarily for providers or organizations that offer services to our consumers and/or Californians with disabilities.

Independent Living & Assistive Technology Grants & Contracts
The Independent Living & Assistive Technology Sections (ILS & AT) of DOR offer Grants (RFAs) & Contracts (RFPs) to private nonprofit organizations in seven areas.

VR Service Provider Contracts (RFP)
The Community Resources Development Section of DOR conducts extensive needs assessments across 13 districts and Blind Field Services to determine gaps in the local services that consumers need to be successful in employment preparation and placement. Service Provider Contracts (RFPs) are designed to best address the needs of DOR consumers and local district priorities for services. Projects established by these Contracts (RFPs) are intended to assist people with disabilities prepare for employment and, depending on DOR's current focus, may include situational assessments, vocational evaluations, employment services, rehabilitation technology training, independent living skills and personal vocational and social adjustment.

Blind Services Grants (RFA)
DOR's services for the Blind and Visually Impaired administers grants (RFAs) to private, nonprofit agencies that provide direct independent living services to visually impaired individuals age 55 and older. Core services funded by these grants (RFAs) include orientation & mobility, activities of daily living, adjustment counseling, advocacy, adaptive equipment/assistive technology and transportation.
- A letter sent out on 1/26/2010, and another sent out on 7/20/2010, were to request the assistance of agencies, programs, service providers, and other interested stakeholders to voluntarily provide the match DOR needs to draw down all of the Older Individuals Who Are Blind (OIB) funds. The 10% match must come from non-federal resources. Matching funds can be in the form of cash or in-kind match. These letters, and their accompanying Reporting Documents (as indicated on the letter sent out), may be found under the OIB Heading on the Department's Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired Web Page. You may use the Reporting Documents, as indicated on the letter sent out, if your agency is able to provide cash or in-kind match for the OIB grants to provide services to Californians who are blind or visually impaired and 55 years of age or older.
