Mobility Evaluation Program (MEP)
The Mobility Evaluation Program (MEP) is a section of the Department of Rehabilitation that provides driving evaluations for qualified individuals to help determine their transportation needs. We also provide passenger and wheelchair evaluations.
MEP complies with State Regulations and Department Directives for procedures governing driving evaluations.
During the driving evaluation, we perform a physical assessment of the individual to help determine the best fit of adaptive equipment to the individual's capabilities. We then drive with the individual to assess his/her potential in becoming a safe and independent driver.
The final recommendation reflects our findings. A successful outcome would include an equipment list detailing the least cost approach to the necessary adaptive equipment to allow for safe and independent driving.
MEP has one of the most wide-ranging collections of evaluation vehicles in the country and the program is constantly upgrading the mobility equipment to the most current technology. The Mobility Evaluation Program also provides training, both on and off site, in Adaptive Technology and Driver Evaluation Practices for DOR Counselors and SCIF Case Managers. Training services may be available for other programs. Contact our program Administrator.
